Wroclaw-Poland European Capital of Culture

marketplacewroclawThe city of Wroclaw, the capital city of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship can be found by the River Oder and is one of the warmest cities in the country, its summers generally lasting approximately 114 days. With 30 colleges housing 135,000 students it is also one of the major centres of education for the country and is a major competitor in the railway car and electronic manufacturing industries, which has begun to attract foreign investors in recent years. Since 1989 it has also been a major financial centre for the country and has one of the lowest rates of unemployment in the country.


ratuszwroclawThe city boasts over 100 bridges, which can be viewed from one of the many tour boats which carry tourists along the waterways, although the heart of the city is the market square, one of the largest of its kind in the country, was built at the centre of several major transport routes from the Czech Republic allowing for a high rate of international trading which, in turn, made Wroclaw into one of the largest and prosperous cities in Europe during the 14th century. Nowadays the Market square functions as a social area where you can find stylish shops, trendy restaurants and busy night clubs to enjoy as well as a stunning Gothic Town Hall.


The city is also well known for its professional sports, particularly soccer thanks to the Śląsk Wrocław team and is hosting football games in euro2012 championships next year in The Municipal Stadium.
